Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal

It's so easy to make Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal at home! This vegan cereal recipe will satisfy your craving for that classic cinnamon-sugar cereal.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorite cereals. That cinnamon-sugar flavor reminds me so much of my childhood. Although I rarely eat cereal these days, occasionally I get a craving for something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and, yes, it would be easy to just go to a store and buy it, but I’m a baker, so I just really like to make things at home!

This easy Cinnamon Toast Crunch recipe is a fun way to make your own cereal at home. Homemade vegan cereal is not at all complicated, but it does take a bit of time to make. The full instructions for this homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch recipe is below. If you decide to give this a try, let me know what you think!

How do you make this homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal?

This homemade cereal starts out like any other basic pastry recipe. You’ll blend together some flour and butter until it forms course crumbs, and then pour in a bit of cold water until the dough can be rolled into a ball.

Refrigerate this pastry dough for about 30 minutes, and then roll it out into a thin sheet. Press your cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the dough, and then slice it into small cereal-sized squares. Separate the squares and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before eating on its own, or in a bowl of milk!

Is this homemade cereal healthy?

I don’t typically like to categorize individual foods as healthy or unhealthy. I think the most important thing is to eat a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, and fewer processed foods.

That being said, I think making your own food at home will almost always be better for you than pre-packaged foods. This homemade cereal is made with simple ingredients, and you can enjoy it while knowing exactly what’s in it!

Does this taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

This cereal does not taste exactly like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but it is a good homemade alternative if you’re craving something with similar flavors. This cereal does not get as crunchy as traditional Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. For that reason, I do like to eat it by itself without milk as a tasty-sweet snack!

It's so easy to make Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal at home! This vegan cereal recipe will satisfy your craving for that classic cinnamon-sugar cereal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c rye flour (or, use all purpose flour)
  • 5 tbsp vegan butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 c - 1/2 c cold water
  • 3 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix the coconut sugar and cinnamon together in a small cup. Set aside.
  2. Pour the flours into a large bowl. Add in the butter, and cut it into the flour mixture using your hands, or a pastry cutter (alternatively, you could do this step in a food processor). Mix it until it becomes crumbly.
  3. Now, pour in the vanilla and the water a little at a time, and mix with a spoon or fork until a dough forms. You may not need all of the water.
  4. Flatten the dough into a disc, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Store in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 F.
  6. Roll out the dough on top of a sheet of parchment paper until it's thin. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar on top of the dough, being sure to press it in.
  7. Using a pizza cutter, slice the dough into small squares. Separate the squares so they're not touching (this will help them bake evenly).
  8. Slide the parchment paper onto a baking sheet, and bake for 18-20 minutes, until the cereal is slightly darker in color.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Eat the cereal alone or in a bowl with milk!
